Microsoft Exchange Rpc Client Access Not Starting Sbs 2011 Remote
I have Exchange 2010 running on Windows Server 2008 R2 running on VMWare vSphere 5.5 host. I recently moved the Exchange VM from another host but it has been up and running for a few weeks since with no problems. Sometime over last weekend the Windows server had updates installed and Exchange stopped working.
Exchange 2010 RPC Client Access service won't start after installing SP3 + Update Rollup 10. Host is SBS Server 2011. Have tried multiple fixes on the web but without luck: Setting the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service to Automatic(Delayed Start).
The usual 'Reboot needed' message was on the screen. I rebooted but had a long delay at 'Please wait for the User Profile Service.' Eventually it boots but some of the Exchange service do not start.
The Event logs only give the generic error that the service did not start in a timely fashion. These Exchange Services do start. -AD Topology, AntiSpam Update, File Distribution, Mail Submission, Mailbox Assistants, Mailbox Replication, Search Indexer, System Attendant, Transport Log Search. These Exchange services do NOT start. - Address Book, Information Store, RPC Client Access, Throttling, Transport.
I have tried manually starting the Information Store and tried restarting the AD Topology - no change. I have checked DNS settings, Time Sync (both with Windows DC and VM host) - no change. I have tried to reboot many times during the process of investigating. It is our only Exchange server and I have already spent more that 2 days with it offline. (The User Profile Service delay is still there too!) Nothing seem to make any difference.

I have Googled and forumed my fingers to the bone. Any one seen this before and have a solution or even got any good ideas? Problem solved!!!! After rebooting overnight I found a new error message in the Event Viewer. Unhandled Exception 'The Microsoft Exchange Active Directory Topology service on server localhost did not return any suitable domain controllers.' I have checked the time sync of our Exchange server against 2 of our DCs but had missed the 3rd DC. It was out by about 4 minutes.
Once I had all DCs time synced to the Exchange server all services started automatically. I cannot believe that I so missed something so simple. I guess I am more exhausted than I thought.
