I've never been into KOL as i've always found it too cold and mechanic, easily the lesser Radiohead album except for Pablo Honey. But i then kept reading all this opinions that the live performance of it was way better than the record itself so i give it a try. Well, the difference really is like night and day. Everything is better, the band performance, the arrangements, Thom's singing and on top of that it includes two songs that are among the highlights of that period. What they did to Bloom for example is amazing, its like a different song.

My only dissapointment is that this is only available as a DVD/Blue ray. I would buy this on a heartbeat if they release it on vinyl. Hopefully in the future they release it.
Its weird that Staircase (probably my favourite Radiohead song since the OK Computer days) and The Daily Mail aren't widely available on a physical format. Ps2 loader. Hopefully in the future they release it. Its weird that Staircase (probably my favourite Radiohead song since the OK Computer days) and The Daily Mail aren't widely available on a physical format. Neat, the same thing happened to me with In Rainbows.
The album drove me nuts with the 'toy monkeys banging on tin cans' bullsquat -- totally distracting and annoying. But seeing In Rainbows: Live From the Basement was a whole other kettle of chips; the band were *amazing* and I was transfixed the entire time.
Really great stuff. I realized Radiohead were one of those bands I needed to see live (I haven't yet) in order to understand pretty much everything starting with OK Computer. None of that stuff really works for me – too drony, too mid-tempo. My favorite by far is the My Iron Lung EP, “Lewis (Mistreated)” is such a cool song. Slightly off topic, but just wanted to say that 'From The Basement' was an awesome music program all around, not only the justly celebrated Radiohead episodes. I had the good fortune to work on the promos for this show when it aired in the US about 10 years ago (on a now-defunct music channel called Rave HD). The show had such great visual style (courtesy of celebrated music video director Sophie Mueller) and, of course, didn't hurt from having Nigel Godrich running sound.
I produced literally hundreds of live music promos for that channel over the years, but 'From The Basement' was one of my all-time favorite assignments. Beck, Thom Yorke, PJ Harvey, Sonic Youth, the list goes on and on.
Click to expand.Damn you're absolutely right, I just compared Bloom and it's DR4 for both.with the stereo track actually having a massive amount greater headroom. Fronts from 5.1: Peak Value: -1.87 dB --- -1.97 dB Avg RMS: -7.60 dB --- -7.26 dB DR channel: 4.07 dB --- 3.76 dB Stereo: Peak Value: -13.80 dB --- -13.94 dB Avg RMS: -19.57 dB --- -19.21 dB DR channel: 4.17 dB --- 3.75 dB Compare this to the Coldplay Ghost Stories Live, here's the fronts only from the 5.1 mix of Sky Full Of Stars mastered by Ted Jensen who cranked the album version to DR5.substantially more dynamic here: Peak Value: -10.57 dB --- -10.49 dB Avg RMS: -23.19 dB --- -23.27 dB DR channel: 8.49 dB --- 8.62 dB.
